…and with some data that seems questionable…who pays these guys?
Where is the oversight…? Understand that this sort of reporting important for macro level but for shrimp specific does not do the shrimp industry justice – always putting salmon up there in the executive summary. No mention of disparity in job creation and lifting people out of poverty. No mention about vannamei being 2x salmon and larger volume than carp!
We all know FAO do not support shrimp aquaculture that much in developing countries because shrimp are more grown for export than local consumption and FAO is more into food security than the business of supporting shrimp aquaculture – although Indonesia consumes 60% of shrimp it grows…
Look at table below – vannamei is largest volume species grown on planet. Twice that of salmon…but only 145mmT in 2015 – ???…an error there.
Crawfish also an interesting one – aquaculture? Doubt it – most fished out of inland freshwater waterways in China. Numbers also totally wrong stretching back to 2015. 17% meat yield so live weight at 9900MT in 2015 equates to 1683MT…about twice what I purchased for the UK market in 2010…and that was just one company…not including massive EU purchases…
